Privacy Policy

Effective September 16, 2026

In short: your setup stays on your phone. Depart has no accounts and no analytics. Your saved train journeys, bus stops, and preferences live in local storage on your device. Location is only used, on request, to look up nearby stations and stops.

This page explains exactly what the app touches and why, so you don't have to take that on faith.

What the app stores

Depart keeps a small amount of data on your device, using iOS's standard local app storage. None of it is transmitted anywhere except as part of the live lookups described below.

Data
Purpose
Saved train journeys
origin, destinations, label
Remembers the routes you want on your departure board.
Saved bus stops
stop, direction, route filter
Remembers which stops and routes to show on the Bus tab.
App preferences
refresh rate, rows shown, search radius
Remembers how you like the app configured between launches.

Location

Depart asks for permission to use your location ("when in use" only — never in the background) so it can find train stations and bus stops near you when you choose to search for one while setting up a saved journey or stop.

Third-party data sources

To show you live departure and status information, the app contacts the following services when the relevant tab is open:

These requests include only the station or stop codes and coordinates needed to answer the query — they do not include any information that identifies you personally. Depart is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by National Rail, Network Rail, any train operating company, or Transport for London.

What we don't do

Your control over this data

Everything above lives in the app's local storage sandbox on your device:

Children's privacy

Depart does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app has no age gate because it collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age, beyond the on-device, non-identity-linked location use described above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version adds a feature that touches data differently — the date at the top of this page will update, and the change will be described here in plain terms.
